Part of the journey is learning how to put yourself first. No doubt you were always put in positions of caring for others and putting yourself aside.
It means making sacrifices for your highest good, and dropping anyone who doesn't treat you the way you deserve to be treated. It means saying no to bad behavior directed towards you even if it's from someone you love. It means not owing an explanation and knowing that people won't understand what it is you're doing, but that it's okay. It means moving in opposition to social expectations, and built up expectations that you're there to take care of everyone else.
We get rewarded on the basis of learning to maintain and build our own destroyed boundaries and when we drop bad people and bad behavior, we send a powerful message to the universe that we no longer will tolerate that treatment from anything or anyone.
